A British man yesterday pleaded guilty to molesting a Dubai Airport employee by slapping him on the buttocks - three times. The trial, which started yesterday, heard that the 30-year-old British visitor, AJ, who is charged with molestation and consuming alcohol, groped his victim as he was going through airport security after arriving in Dubai on December 18. The Court of First Instance heard from the public prosecution that as AJ went through security, the 21-year-old airport worker asked him to put his keys and other possessions into a tray and through the x-ray machine. The victim, identified only as AB, said he smelt alcohol on AJ, who after proceeding through the security check, approached AB and told him in English: “I was married to someone who looks like you”. AJ, collected his bags and as his victim turned away from him, he slapped him on his buttocks. He immediately reported the incident to the airport police and an officer came and questioned AJ. As the officer was questioning the Brit, AB says he was slapped again, although the police officer denies seeing this second incident. The accused then repeated the act again and this time the officer witnessed the molestation. The prosecution also alleges that AJ threw dollars at his victim and insulted him using very strong language. The accused, who appeared smartly dressed in court yesterday, confessed to the charges and appealed for leniency saying he had made a mistake: “I just want to say I’m sorry,” he told the court. “It was a mistake. I’m feeling ashamed and embarrassed. I’m asking for mercy and I want the verdict to be lenient because I miss my wife and daughter and I want to see them.”
